Timber Retaining Wall
Timber Retaining Wall
We had the pleasure of assisting this client in transforming their steep backyard into a functional, relatively level space that they can enjoy with their children.
We utilized reclaimed railroad ties to construct a four-foot tall, 120-foot long retaining wall. Our initial step involved excavating a one-foot trench, which we filled with 3/4" crushed gravel. The first layer of timbers was installed below ground level to prevent hydrostatic pressure from compromising the integrity of the wall. Each subsequent layer was securely fastened together with screws and reinforced with rebar. Additionally, we placed 12 to 16 inches of 3/4" crushed rock behind the wall, along with geo grid, to facilitate drainage and ensure the stability of the structure.
